WordPress Upgrade Folder Housekeeping
Once in a while, I like to log in to cPanel, use the Disc Space Usage tool to figure out where the space suckers are. The files and folders who eat up all my web space. One of those days, I found the /wp-content/upgrade folder was bigger than I liked it to be. Inside the folder, was a ‘core’ folder and several other folders of plugins that I used.
Hmm… WordPress, upgrade. Ah! That’s probably where the files are kept so WordPress can do its upgrades. So… why keep it there after the upgrade is successful and done? After all, you only need the files once and it’s a duplicate.
I decided to delete them. Guess what? The sky didn’t fall on my head!
If you’re wondering where all your web space went, might want to check in there, maybe do some housekeeping once in a while in that folder.

Lynette thank you this just might be what is happening to my clients site. I have a question for you as well I am hoping you can help me with this. One of my sites is not upgraded due to a line header having wrong coding, I paid someone to upgrade it manually for me and he couldn’t do it after I paid him. I cannot use the automatic update plug in’s either like I did in the past. This occurred after I changed hosting accounts, I still am using I believe 2.5 for Heal Yourself Talk Radio and would really like to upgrade to the newest version of WordPress. My question can you recommend someone who is inexpensive and who can manually upgrade my word press. I am actually afraid to upgrade manually, the one thing I refuse to do on my own LOL.
Thanks!

Rebbekah,
If I could butt in… (sorry – was doing a fly by on the blog and couldn’t help noticing..)
The line error *could be* a plugin that contains extra spaces after the final ?> if the file… this single problem has broken my theme more times than I can count. Plugin developers don’t always clean up like they should. If you recently installed (or upgraded) a plugin, you can try opening the plugin files in the editor and making sure there are ZERO spaces after the final closing PHP tag.
Also, I have a video on how to manually install WordPress upgrades if that would help… you can find that on my Videos site by searching for wordpress upgrade (upper right corner).
If none of this works, I can help. Just drop me a note on my blog.

Hey Rebbekah! So good to ‘see’ you again.
Kinda hard to tell without actually looking at the error. Sometimes the error will tell you exactly where the issue is. I’ll be in touch with you. We can certainly take a look at this for you without breaking the bank 🙂
