Why You Should Avoid Blogger For Business

Anyone who has gone through my Blogging Starter Pack course knows I strongly advise using a platform other than Blogger when blogging for business.

Let’s get this straight first. I have no problems with Blogger at all. I really like it and was what I used to start my blogging journey back in 1999 (doesn’t that sound like eons ago?). The biggest reason I don’t recommend it for business bloggers is because of control.

Just recently, one of Google’s very own blogs was marked as spam and removed. There are reports of people losing their blogs too. Yes, it is by accident but it’s just too easy to lose your blog.

I can’t imagine what state of emotions I’d be if I lost this blog with years and years of content. What about Blogger published on your own domain? I don’t have details on that, I imagine Blogger is more critical of blogs on Blogspot.com than other domains what use Blogger.

But again it’s about control. If Blogger denied you access to your account, you can’t update your blog. Sure you have the content but remember, the content is in static HTML pages. Which makes it extremely difficult to port over to another platform.

But Lynette, hosting on your own site, you still depend on your web host. True. But you see, I can make backups and if my host does not behave, I can grab my backups and move to another host in a jiffy and no copying/pasting years’ worth of content. Source: Google custom search blog marked as spam
