Maybe it’s because of my previous job (used to work for an office automation company) but I think every home office should have a good black and white laser printer. The biggest reason is cost.

Compared to an inkjet, per page cost is much lower on a laster printer. Generally laser color printers and toners cost more out of pocket to buy. But each toner cartridge also yields many more pages. Usually thousands of pages versus 100++ pages for ink cartridges.

When we used inkjets exclusively, every time we printed just one good ebook, we’d pretty much use up all the ink. Talk about expensive. It also took ages to print. Now, we only change out our toner cartridge once, maybe twice a year. Laser printers also print a whole lot faster.

You might still want to keep a color ink jet for photos. But for every day office use, go laser. Your accountant will be proud.

Here’s a similar model to the one in my office. It’s been faithfully serving me for a few years now and very happy with it.
