Video On Website – Convert It To Flash

A few weeks ago, a friend asked me how to put up video on a website. The people she’s creating the site for already has a website but wanted her to re-work it and… it has a video clip. Since she’s not technically inclined, I told her to simply link to the clip (which is in WMV format). Today’s browsers are more savvy on audio/visual than they used to be and it shouldn’t be a big issue.

However, just wanted to share this with you. If it were my site, I would always convert the video to flash format. Why? Because flash is universal. Video formats like WMV and AVI won’t play unless they install special third party software. Most casual surfers won’t bother. But flash – can be played on different computers and because it is such a popular format, most people have the plugins already.

So how do you convert your videos to flash? There are countless software out there that will convert any format to flash. Here are a few:
Turbine Video Encoder – the free version works just as nicely but it will have a small logo in the corner. But at $39, you’re better off just buying it.
GeoVid Video to Flash Converter – I haven’t used this – maybe I have it’s been a while since my last software test frenzy but there are lot’s of other users who give a thumbs up.
