Screen Capture Video Software
Ever wondered what people use to create those screen capture videos? Well there are plenty of options and I’ve downloaded so many to try out. One of the biggest things you want to consider is do you want one that can create flash videos. This makes all the difference because you can get many screen capture software that can record in .AVI format and they are quite inexpensive starting at $30. But once you decide you want the video to be flash based, that changes everything.
Most software that can create flash videos cost more but flash has many advantages because it can be viewed across many different operating systems and that is a big plus. Here are a few you may want to try.
Camstudio 2.0 – this is originally an open source software. If you look hard you will probably still find the source code for it you can build upon. It still works well and produced decent quality flash screen recordings. It’s not being developed anymore and there are a few bugs here and there but it can’t be beat for $0. It has no editing feature but you can make screen annotations that help you emphasize parts of your video. I’ve found video quality to be good although Recommended if you want to try out creating videos. Download here.
Screen Cam Generator – Just by looking at the interface, this looks like an updated and upgraded Camstudio. It doesn’t have editing either but the nice part is the CD Menu Generators and the Menu Generators that make your videos easier to navigate. It also comes with six nice players that give your videos a refreshing look.
Camtasia – this is probably the more complete of all. It has some really powerful features that include both video and audio editing, ability to create multiple formats. You can also include interactivity into your videos with Camtasia like quizzes and one of the many features I like about this is the screen draw option. As I record, I can change the mouse from a pointer to a pen and actually draw on the screen to further emphasize my message and really make the video come alive.
Macromedia Captivate – this is another one of those complete screen recording software. I don’t have that much experience with it although once I did use the trial. It works ok but I wasn’t happy how it would ‘skip’ and often parts of my video would come out missing. At that time they advised me to try making my recordings at a slower pace and so I did but it didn’t improve much. Hopefully they’ve fixed that now. But it’s quite pricey and I’d much rather settle for Camtasia if I am already paying out so much.
ViewletCam – this is a simple and nice one for the price. I actually like this and it creates nice quality videos with nice players. It also has sister products that are capable of the more complex functions Camtasia or Captivate offers. Overall another good starter screen recording software.
Screen Recorder Pro – nice price gets the job done. Trial can be downloaded here.
There are plenty more and probably never finish listing them. Hope this is a good start for you and let me know what you think of them.
