RSS Feed Or Newsletter Subscription
We’ve got an awesome question this week from Rebecca. She asks,
I have a newsletter subscriber list on Constant Contact and was wondering if it would be better to have my subscribers subscribe to my rss feed on my website at http://www.healyourselftalk.com instead of sending out a newsletter every Friday as I only send it out to update the new shows that I have added to the site during the week? What would you suggest? I keep the newsletter or ask my subscribers to subscribe to my RSS feed? Thanks
A: Thanks for sending in your question Rebecca. With all the options we have to keep in touch with our readers, it makes our task challenging sometimes. For your purposes, I’d say give them both. I am not sure if Constant Contact can send emails out based on RSS feed. I know Aweber can.
Here’s how it works. You enter your RSS feed into the list settings, and then each time your RSS feed is updated, it sends out an email to your email list with an excerpt – or full entry of your blog post.
This is extremely helpful since you can now tell people they have a choice. Email or RSS. Some people like one but not the other so don’t force them into a format they may not like or they won’t subscribe at all.
If Constant Contact can’t do that, then I’d personally keep the list and start thinking about other things you can send those on the list in between updates. Not necessarily pitches/full blown newsletter. But maybe supplementary or additional info not available to RSS readers. And if you have tried out a product that is really good, do not feel ashamed to drop some affiliate recommendations in there.
The list is already built. Might as well make it worth while.
