My Private Life As An Internet Entrepreneur

Last week, I was tagged by Alice Seba who in turn was tagged by Dr. Mani to complete a Meme. I have to answer 5 questions about myself as an online business owner so here goes.

1. How long have you been blogging?

Oh golly do I dare admit the days I tried to blog with Microsoft Frontpage? Eeek! I know, I know how the hell do you blog using Frontpage. The answer, you can’t but I sure did try. See how lucky you folks are now with super easy blog systems? 🙂 That should give you an indication of how long I’ve been blogging. But in case you have to have an accurate answer – since 1999… wow… that date sure looks different when you write it out. It’ll almost be 10 years soon. Now that just makes me feel ancient.

2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?

I’m not sure I’m ready to admit what got me started. Let’s just say it had nothing with making money online nor business. Mentors? Huh? This was pre-Blogger. Blogging mentors were about as easy to find as a Martian in my back yard. But overall, I have to say it was my brother. No, he’s not into Internet marketing but he introduced me to Blogger when they first opened up and couldn’t stop raving about it.

Today, I don’t really have blog mentors per se. I watch (and learn from) the big movers and shakers like Alice Seba, Michel Fortin, Darren Rowse, the folks at Gawker and GigaOmniMedia.

3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?

I like to have fun and sure like money too! So both 🙂 but generally I approach this as a business first. Not saying it can’t be fun, but I am doing this to feed and clothe my family. Professionalism has to take over fun and games sometimes.

4. Tell me 3 things you LOVE about being online.

  • I love being home when my kids get off the bus.
  • I’ve met the most amazing people online – including my husband (aha! Now you know) In case you’re wondering, we just celebrated our 8th anniversary and I can’t ask for a better spouse. Hmmm come to think of it now the Internet has brought me success in more areas of my life than I thought.
  • It allows me to get creative.

5. Tell me 3 things you STRUGGLE with in the online world.

  • Keeping my patience with people who steal my content. I’ll stop here before I throw an embarrassing tantrum 😉
  • Getting sucked into social all those social media sites.
  • Knowing when is time to call it quits for the day or for the week. Getting better at this sloooowly. It is so hard when you really love what you do.

So, who shall I tag now? How about some of my fantastic commenters? Let’s see. Calling… Shirley George Frazier, Marie Ynami, Rich of IMMania, And a friend or two whom I would love to hear from… Jen Houck and Nicole Dean.
