Javascript Calendar Comes To The Rescue

magnifying-glass-thumbLast week, I wrote an entry about just how frustrated I was trying to find an event calendar to work on both the static pages and WordPress. You can read the full details of the task here.

What I hadn’t mentioned is, the one requirement for the calendar is, it must be a mini calendar. Meaning a small one that displays the month where days with events are highlighted.

Most event calendars are stand alone. Meaning, you have to link to it in order to see the calendar on a full page of its own. So that made the task so much harder.

After lots of frustration finding the right one plus one that agreed with the client’s server settings, I decided to try Javascript instead and found this little gem >> FlatCalendarXP.

This thing is powerful and flexible. The only bad thing is, it can be tricky to update events because you need to edit the Javascript. However the developer took that into account and you can update events from a .CSV file as well.

I never got the CSV to work mostly because I was really short on time and I’m not a Javascript whiz. This thing has loads of settings and you have to turn this feature on somewhere. For developers, you should also know that you can retrieve events from a database or an XML file which makes it nice.

FlatCalendarXP Lite is free and plenty for just a teleseminar call calendar. If you need more features, prices start at $108 for a single domain (at time of writing).
