How Often Should I Blog?

This is such a hot question. People get confused and scared to create blogs for their business because they fear this need to blog several times a day and do it daily.

The majority of top blogs online are updated several times a day and daily. That’s because it’s their business to do so. Many of them are news and review site and have a team or contributors. Their business is to deliver news and information.

Is you are using your blog to aid your business then the strategy is different. Yes, you still need to keep it updated but certainly not at the top of every hour. In the Blogging Starter Pack course audio I mentioned something like three times a week. Since then, I’ve done some testing and talking to other bloggers. What I found out is interesting.

The less often I blog, the more comments I get. One of the things many blog readers tell me is they can’t keep up. The only blogs they really want up to the hour updates are news sites. For others, the less often they receive news, the more likely they will read it. It’s because people are busy and it’s kinda like receiving email. You see 3 or 4 entries from this guy, you tend to put it off for later unless the topic really catches your eye.

So, I’ve since slowed down from daily to 3 times and am testing 2 times a week. My traffic hasn’t suffered and I am getting more comments. Is this the strategy you should take?

I don’t know. Every market is different. Some markets need to be updated regularly some don’t. Try different schedules and different times, watch your traffic logs and keep track what you’re doing. You’ll find one schedule will turn out to be a winner both for you and your readers.

You’re most welcome Carrie. Here’s something else someone just shared with me today.

Just wanted to tell you that this was very valuable to me and I greatly
    appreciate the information!

I enjoy your newsletters (when I get a chance to read them). And I keep
every one of them, especially when I don’t get a chance to read them. I
    consider them a valuable resource.

Firstly, thank you so much for the nice comments.

Her comments made me think of something else. Unlike email, people can’t ‘keep’ blog entries. Sure it’s archived on your site but rarely would they come to search. So fewer postings may actually work out better. I’ve dropped mine down to 2 a week now.
