Over the past 4 years I’ve seen quite a few affiliate link cloakers. Many are just blah, some are downright crappy (sorry – but can’t hide what’s true) but, they did the job. Recently, my friend Reba Collins (another tech savvy lady) alerted me to a really cool free affiliate link cloaker. Not only will it hide your affiliate links, when the visitor lands on the merchant’s page, the URL is still yours. There is an advantage to this because it forces people to use your link. For some weird reason, some people don’t like you getting a commission on their sale. After landing on the merchant’s page, they learn the real URL to the site, delete their cookies (there goes your commission) and then type in the merchant’s URL in their browser to purchase.

Anyway, Profit Protector is the name of the software, provided free by a Measuring Up, an SEO company. You can get this free affiliate link cloaker here and note the URL. Yup. I used Profit Protector there. Now try clicking on other links on the site – URL stays the same. You won’t fool really savvy web users though as they can still see the real URL in the browser’s status bar, but most people wouldn’t be that alert (or just don’t have the time). Highly recommended.
