First Email Now Phones : Backup

Since we’re already on the subject of backups, have you backed up your phone contact lately? Maybe you don’t use phones that much in your business. But I know of many who do.

Like my brother in law who runs a successful painting business. His phone is done all by phone and all client data is stored on the phone. It’s a long story which is not necessary to repeat here but he ended up losing his phone (and telephone number). It was not a happy day for him.

Even for me where my business does not rely on the phone, I’m finding myself using it more, entering more data into it especially for staff communication (developers, assistants etc). If you’re one of those who need to have contacts on your phone to function or even use email on your phone a lot you really need to backup that data.

Some options you may want to check out:

backup-pal

Backup Pal – I kinda like this. Lo-tech, no PC required has its place. Considering purchasing for my BIL

BitPM – Open source desktop software that connects to your phone. Access PhoneBook, Calendar, WallPapers, RingTones. What you can access depends on your phone.

ZYB – Not sure I like putting my contacts on other people’s servers.

Ask your cell phone provider. Major carriers normally have a backup service available. You’ll have to pay (but of course).

Finally – you could always have a paper copy of your contacts 🙂
