Firefox 3.5 Really Slow On Gmail And Youtube

Dad got himself a brand new laptop this week. While he may not be super tech savvy, he does very well for a 70+ year old man. But as you can imagine he needs plenty of help, usually the help required is simple but today he stumped me. FirefoxApparently YouTube and Gmail was slow as molasses and often ended up in blank page. Now I use Firefox 3.5 too but experience no such thing. Odd.

After running through the regular checkpoints – firewall, network, refresh cache and not working, I figured it had to be add-on related especially since these sites load beautifully on IE. Turns out, it was the Skype plugin.

After uninstalling the Skype plugin – which he never uses anyway, Gmail and YouTube came right up.

I would love to be able to use FireFox again. 🙁 FF was the only browser I used until 3 months ago when a “tech” person installed and ran IObit Advanced SystemCare3 on my computer. Now I can’t even open FF (or IE for that matter) and have had to use Chrome. Don’t get me wrong, Chrome is OK – but I miss my SEO plugins! And I need to be able to check my sites in other browsers. Grrrrr. Ok, rant over. Thanks for listening! 🙂

Wow that is strange Stephanie. I too would be so super lost. I like Chrome in a way but still, so many tools on FF. Hope you eventually get it sorted out.

They probably haven't caught up with the new release since Skype changed a ton of things as well. I never used their FF plugin though.
