Download Old Free Versions Again

Apps obsessionHave you ever used a great piece of free software and found it’s no longer free anymore? As a business person I want to support people and absolutely do not mind to pay for decent software. Yet sometimes, we may be on a tight budget – those little $29.95 purchases add up quickly.

Here are a few places you can grab older versions that still are under free license. Just be aware that older versions may contain security issues. So you may want to check the developers’ websites for vulnerabilities of the version you are downloading.

    Hey Lynette,

    Great post and a really important idea. I have never upgraded to Vista, and at this point I haven’t seen one compelling reason to do so.

    We have reached a point of diminishing value of upgrades.

    Hey again Rick,

    Despite my techie-ness, I am slow to move on on somethings. Operating system is certainly one of those. I am still very happy with Windows 2000 that’s on one of our servers and didn’t move to XP until it was well into Service Pack 2. Even my Mac is still on Tiger.

    I like Vista now that I’ve figured out how to work with the UAC and wireless networking parts.

    I purchased the upgrade for Leopard, but was wondering if you know if I can upgrade an iMac running OS 9 & X? I’m reluctant to upgrade my Mac Mini running OS X.4.11 which has never had any problems what-so-ever… although having the Windows side on it would be convenient… I’m kinda nervous about making things complicated. Input appreciated. Thanks. I enjoy reading your stuff very much.

    Hey Debbie, good to hear things are working out for you. It’s really all about getting used to something. I am not a Microsoft Basher nor a Mac groupie. So it doesn’t matter to me what I use, the most important thing is that it works right? I have no doubt eventually I’ll upgrade. Just a matter of time. Let them work out the kinks first.

    When it comes to Macs I’m a big dummy so I really don’t know what your risks are upgrading from OS 9 but upgrading from OS X should not be a big thing. At least that’s what I imagine.
