
Whoa! While reading a blog somewhere recently – sorry! I cannot remember which blog this was or I’d link to it – it came to my attention a lot of things can be bought for a price. The article was talking about a company paying people to subscribe to their RSS feed. Don’t ask how they would verify that because I don’t know how they can reliably do that.
Why do this? So that they can display that cool chicklet to say they have a ton of RSS feed subscribers and look like they are one of those hot shot blogs.
Some people are already talking about being paid for Tweets on Twitter. A guy is also trying to sell his Facebook profile on eBay complete with friends list and followers. Kinda crazy.
My own take away – don’t trust those RSS subscriber counts you see on other people’s blog. They may be inflated. Don’t focus on the numbers we have but how we serve those we do have. Thoughts?
