Anybody Can Do This… Really

You hear and read this all the time. On sales pages, webinars, teleseminars, infomercials and very often network marketing presentations. Anyone can do it. “My 80 year old grandma can so can you” or some variation. Have you wondered how true this saying is?

I’m probably guilty of using that line a couple of times, but recently this kinda got under my skin. You see, I’m involved with two products that are sold primarily through network marketing. I’m in it because I want to use their very good product. Not build a business. I already have a business thank you.

Simply put, the ‘uplines’ wants you to succeed (so they can succeed of course), and that’s OK. But what happens when you’re just not cut out for the job?

I’ve been told by many a good network marketer that a successful network marketer is also one who can teach well. The ability to pass on knowledge to your downlines so they can duplicate it is fundamental. I believe and agree. But you know what? Not everyone is born to be a teacher.

Yes, there are some things anyone can do. But there are others that require a special personality, a different outlook in life, a different stroke. So, no. Not everyone can do everything (or network marketing in this case). How boring would our world be if we can all do what everyone else can.

True, not everyone can do everything. I love helping my downline and seeing them “get it!” I also love wholesale shoppers and respect their wishes by not pushing the business aspect on them.

I agree, Lynette. I see posts like this all the time on internet marketing forums bragging about how easy everything is. For me, math is easy…writing is hard. I’m sure for many, it’s the opposite. Everyone is not cut out to be a marketer.

Well – it is possible that anyone CAN do everything but I guess the question is “Do they want to?”. I have been involved in some businesses where uplines would teach me to recruit but it is just not my thing. I love the product, I love promoting the product and of course a discount on it and some commission on it is GREAT but that’s all – not really because I am into growing a team. Does that make sense?

@Melody, I wish more uplines were like you. But thankfully, one product I am in the upline is awesome in the sense she doesn’t push me that way. That also probably has to do with the fact I told her it’s not what I want to do and not my focus.

@Treece, gosh those get posts get to me too.

@Marie, totally. That’s exactly why I am in some programs too. There are many awesome products that are sold through network marketing but the emphasis unfortunately is too much on the network part than the marketing part.
