A Letter For Those Who Leave Comments

top-commentersYou know, I truly appreciate you taking a few moments of your time to leave your 2 cents. So, I’ve decided to reward you with extra link love.

You already know you get that love when you enter your blog or website URL in your comments. There were so many ways I could do this. So many different plugins including the ones that would display your latest post under your comment.

I think those are all cool. But I wanted something more prominent, not buried under old posts. I want to shine a spot light on you. So now, you will see a place just under my BlogRush widget, where you’ll find links to your site or blog (if you commented).

The more you comment, the longer you’ll stay in my top 5 commenters list of the month. But, the counter resets itself every month now. I hope you’ll come back every month so I can feature you.

Thank you so much for paying me with your comments.

    Hi Lynette,

This is great idea Lynnette. What plug-in are you using?

Doug Lietz [Figured I’d get some link love going for my wife’s new venture. As you can see above Cindy has added Polymer Clay to her repertoire].

    Lynette,

The other thing I was hoping to find out from you is if there is a WP plugin that allows you to manually control which comments get followed and which do not in any given post? That would be a handy tool to help discourage blog spammers. Or better put… to help encourage regular visitors to add ‘thoughtful’ comments that keep the conversation moving forward.

    Doug.

@Doug: I am using the Top Commentators Plugin.

For selective Nofollow, maybe the Nofollow case by case plugin is what you’re looking for. I haven’t used it so not sure but it sounds like that’ll do the trick.

Heya Vera, thanks for dropping by.

Definitely a very nice way to thank folks for comments. I’m looking forward to the blogging workshop and learning all the tips. I’ve signed up but do have a question: My business is products while both you and Alice sell information/services. Will the workshop apply to product related blogs as well?

Neat! I just started blogging, and I get SO very excited when someone leaves me comments, it’s like a birthday present in my inbox, so I can completely understand wanting to encourage them :)!

    Hi Lynette,

You are so cool. I keep tabs on your great stuff but not nearly enough. I do want to thank you for the great information you are continually sharing with all of us. And what a great way to get some links back to my New First web Blog. I promise to check back more often.

@Joyce: Absolutely! The same principals apply whether it is a physical or information. I also have software products that have their unique challenges compared to info products and they apply as well.

@Jennifer: Let us know how it works out for you.

    @Kloyd: Hello!

Multiple thanks Lynette! For the link and for the
pull you’re giving me to visit here more often for
my own benefit! you always have interesting blog posts and good suggestions.

Besides it’s nice to meet up with other bloggers too,
a home office can get lonely at times. Just today I
saw Joyce Reid’s name a couple of comments up from
mine and recognized her immediately as a notable
Gift Basket Business owner in Arizona…Hey Joyce I
had Alkigift Basket Services in Seattle WA from 1997 until the end of 2005, and participated in the Gift Basket Network Forum and talked with you about promotions. I enjoyed -although with some nostalgia-visiting your websites today. It seems you’ve gone from Flagstaff to more endeavors still…
my best wishes to you Joyce and thanks again to you Lynette,

    Fran

I always enjoy your posts and this one has a lot of good and actionable information. It just gets a little overwhelming sometimes, with keeping track of all the plug-ins, ways to increase blog traffic, etc. Something new to learn every day and not enough time to implement it!

    Thank you again,
    Merlyn

@Merlyn: True, I try to remind myself that (especially) in today’s world where information is freely available and freely shared, there is just too much for any human being to realistically digest and implement. So if you don’t get to it, that’s OK. Growing our business is important, but there are also more important things than business 🙂
