How Would You Monetize A Micro Blogging Network?
It is part of my job to look for new applications that can be monetized, used to communicate with customers, used to improve a process or used to build a list. About once a month I hang out over at Hotscripts and places like Digital Point to see what developers
have come up with.
Today, I came across one that basically lets you create a micro blogging community. A Twitter like community. As with any online marketer, I am not immune to shiny new things. It just seems so cool to build your own Twitter. But and this is the big but. What good is it to build a site like that if it will not fit into my existing network of products, services and overall direction of the company?
Anything we do should be leveraged. Each site should be able to feed off each other and have some sort of synergy going on. And ultimately, it should make money, or at the very least provide a channel to market products – yours or someone else’s. Isn’t that why we’re in business?
If you are familiar with Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce and places like that you know how they work. The easiest answer to the question is probably just advertising. But what else?
How will you monetize or leverage a site like that if you owned one?
