My Private Life As An Internet Entrepreneur
Last week, I was tagged by Alice Seba who in turn was tagged by Dr. Mani to complete a Meme. I have to answer 5 questions about myself as an online business owner so here goes.
1. How long have you been blogging?
Oh golly do I dare admit the days I tried to blog with Microsoft Frontpage? Eeek! I know, I know how the hell do you blog using Frontpage. The answer, you can’t but I sure did try. See how lucky you folks are now with super easy blog systems? π That should give you an indication of how long I’ve been blogging. But in case you have to have an accurate answer – since 1999… wow… that date sure looks different when you write it out. It’ll almost be 10 years soon. Now that just makes me feel ancient.
2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?
I’m not sure I’m ready to admit what got me started. Let’s just say it had nothing with making money online nor business. Mentors? Huh? This was pre-Blogger. Blogging mentors were about as easy to find as a Martian in my back yard. But overall, I have to say it was my brother. No, he’s not into Internet marketing but he introduced me to Blogger when they first opened up and couldn’t stop raving about it.
Today, I don’t really have blog mentors per se. I watch (and learn from) the big movers and shakers like Alice Seba, Michel Fortin, Darren Rowse, the folks at Gawker and GigaOmniMedia.
3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?
I like to have fun and sure like money too! So both π but generally I approach this as a business first. Not saying it can’t be fun, but I am doing this to feed and clothe my family. Professionalism has to take over fun and games sometimes.
4. Tell me 3 things you LOVE about being online.
- I love being home when my kids get off the bus.
- I’ve met the most amazing people online – including my husband (aha! Now you know) In case you’re wondering, we just celebrated our 8th anniversary and I can’t ask for a better spouse. Hmmm come to think of it now the Internet has brought me success in more areas of my life than I thought.
- It allows me to get creative.
5. Tell me 3 things you STRUGGLE with in the online world.
- Keeping my patience with people who steal my content. I’ll stop here before I throw an embarrassing tantrum π
- Getting sucked into social all those social media sites.
- Knowing when is time to call it quits for the day or for the week. Getting better at this sloooowly. It is so hard when you really love what you do.
So, who shall I tag now? How about some of my fantastic commenters? Let’s see. Calling… Shirley George Frazier, Marie Ynami, Rich of IMMania, And a friend or two whom I would love to hear from… Jen Houck and Nicole Dean.

PS. 10 years ago, I had NO idea that blogs even existed. You’re amazing!
Heya Nicole. Goodness, you are fast! I was going to email you but you beat me π Look forward to your 5 answers.
I think I learned that juicy tidbit about you and your hubs when we had dinner in Atlanta. That’s cool to know that people can meet online and have things work out!
Hi Lynette,
Great post. I can really relate with number 5. I haven’t had my content stolen but it’s definitely hard not to get sucked into the social media sites, forums, and reading all the great blogs out there!
How funny about trying to blog with Frontpage… I guess it COULD be done, but boy oh boy would it be a pain in the rear to keep up with.
Thank goodness for wordpress platform huh? in more than one way too. It makes blogging so easy and it gives me plenty of work LOL.
Great post though Lynette… you are the real deal π That is what I like about you so much.
I’ll do mine tonight.
What great incite into the person behind the name! π
I’ve really enjoyed getting your mailouts! It’s been a pleasure applying all of your great info on my own beloved blog.
Cheers,
Nenette
That is too funny about meeting your husband online π Sounds like my husband and I…we met mine on a phone chat line and later on got married on a roller coaster! We have been together for 11 years now and people still can’t believe how we met hehe
Enough of my rambling though π Thank you for sharing your Meme!
Thanks for the great post, very interesting information. Many, many ,many years ago I met my husband in Times Square.
Keep up the great work Lynette.
Gloria
LOL about #1. And that is neat that you met your husband online – reminds me that there is hope for me yet π
I always love reading blog posts like this because it’s nice to get a ‘peak’ into people’s lives.
Yes Carrie, you got in more than just that little juicy tidbit I threw out LOL
Hey Merlyn don’t spend too much time on those sites but you’re always welcome to spend time here π
Jen, it was such a PITB that I really slowed down after a few months. It looks nothing like a blog today but the general idea is there. I had archives and dated posts. A good attempt at making a journal. Keep in mind those early FrontPage versions didn’t have included content either. Ouch! Believe it or not, we still maintain that site.
Hey Nennette, good to see a new name here. Thank you very much!
Chelle – and I thought we were in a risky relationship!
Gloria – spill the beans. No fair teasing us like that. What happened? How’d he become ‘that guy in Times Square’ to hubs?
Tishia – absolutely! It is so very risque when we think about it now. I mean we met on ICQ random chat too. Loooong story but certainly do-able. People thought we were nuts (and that’s putting it nicely too) but guess we proved them wrong.
Lynnete – sorry for the delay in replying to the tag – I finally got to reply.
No problem Marie! YOu are a busy busy woman π
Lynette,
I have researching Internet Marketing online for two years.
I have explored the options wide and deep.
Along the way I subscribed to LOTS of email newsletters.
They clutter my inbox but have value when I want to look again into that expert.
Lately I have been making labels and moving most of them into archives instead of inbox.
But your messages are exceptional. There is value that you offer unlike any others.
I especially like Send Out Cards. And I plan to use that as part of the marketing system I launch early in 2008.
THANKS for all you helps
Why thank you John! It’s a pleasure. Our family is going through a rough patch right now and you just don’t know how much this helps lift my spirits. God bless you. I will continue to strive to live up to your expectations π
