Back To The 80’s
I’m sitting here watching a program on History Channel about 80’s technology and boy did that bring back memories. I didn’t quite realize just how much of the technology today first became standard in the 80’s. Remember the Walkman? How about Atari? Pac Man is still my favorite ‘computer game’ π Simple, fun, not so much gore. Did you use the original Macintosh, huge 5 and 1/4 inch floppies? Did you have a car phone or better yet, “The Brick” of a cellphone? Oh my. I still remember my brother conducting business using a later version of the Motorola cell phone. It was so cool then. A little hilarious thinking back. We’ve come a long way since, then again the 80’s was a while back too.
So, what was your favorite technology or gadget in the 80’s? Assuming you are old enough to remember the 80’s π C’mon, you can tell.

Oh I loved the Atari! We had that, love pacman. I had a car phone when I went to college (’98 – not that long ago!) and found it the other day, huge! The same size as my house phone! LOL I remember when my Dad first got a small cell phone, oh it was cool.
We had a windows based computer and I remember the green (was it green?) letters staring back at you. LOL I remember also being annoyed because in freshmen (high school) english we had computers, but my Mom’s computer was like a step up from them, so I was mad I had to use a crappy older computer. LOL As if my mom’s was that awesome. Well for back then, yeah.

I’d have to say DOS. Oh wait. . . did you say favorite technology or LEAST favorite technology? π

Favorite but I’ll take least fave too.
You’re right Tsoniki it was green.
Stephanie, you liked DOS? I could never get my head wrapped properly around the commands but gotta admit they can be quite useful.

In 1987, my wife owned a graphic design business and she had a Mac Plus, a Mac SE, a LaserWriter, and a 300 baud Apple modem. This was the early days of Desktop Publishing at it’s best!
She paid a ton of money to buy all that equipment back then, and I remember that she paid $300 for that Apple modem! Can you imagine that π
In just barely 2 decades we have high speed Internet, DSL, Core Duo CPUs, large LCD displays, WiFi access, EvDo wireless, Gigabyte RAM chips, inexpensive ink jet printers, etc etc etc.
We have orders of magnitude increases in personal computing power at a fraction of the cost; high tech is amazing stuff.
PS. My wife is no longer doing desktop publishing for obvious reasons; even our 8 year daughter can do WYSIWYG on her own for school work or greeting cards. My wife is now running her online commerce business; our daughter hasn’t quite learn that yet π
