Why Bother With Group Blogs?

For at least 2 years, I’ve told people this. You don’t have to start your own blog to reap its rewards. Get involved in a group blog. And, if you already have your own, contribute your posts to other blogs.

If you’re the text reader, here’s the gist of it:
Group blogs are an excellent way to gain exposure and it’s win-win for both blog owner and contributor. Here’s why:

1. You may never reach the exact same people. So, you gain extra exposure and new readers.

2. The blog owner gets fresh content, more new and return traffic.

3. Both of you gain by joint promotion efforts.

4. You leverage already written content.

5. The blog owner has less pressure to fill the blog with content.

I think you get the general idea. To see a group blog in action, come on over to Internet Based Moms Experts Blog. Yes. I am one of the contributors there.

P.S: I am looking for guest bloggers to contribute on this blog. If you’re interested, click here to contact me.

P.P.S.: People are dying to jump on as guest bloggers and to have guest bloggers on board. I was just looking at a call for guest bloggers at LinkedIn (in the Q&A) and the response was great. You can always find guest bloggers and offer yourself as a guest at BlogEnergizer.

I love the idea of group blogs and have often toyed with the idea of starting one (or four – LOL). I’m part of a couple already and need to get better at posting to them!

how do you do a group blog like the one shown with the blog intros that you click on to go to the full posting

@Tsoniki, I’ve had group blogs ‘fail’ on me too. Though I advocate it there are some caveats. You should find people who are already blogging regularly – this way you know they are motivated and in the hang of it. Also, laying a few ground rules and what will happen if they don’t meet the minimum posts is one of my biggest lessons.

@Hi Larry. For Internet Based Mom’s expert blogs, it is a combination of using a static home page – which can be done easily in WordPress and using a third party script Carp. Carp grabs the latest posts from the RSS feed and displays it in HTML on any web page.

I tried using a plugin that grabs the latest posts from each author but it would not co-operate. So I had to resort to using Carp.

    Thank you for the reply.

So how do you autimatically create the RSS feed with your blog so that my static page can use carp to display the post thumbnails?

Hey Larry, if you have a blog, the feed is already created for you. For WordPress blogs it’s normally http://domain.com/blog/feed
