Love Hate Relationship With Copywriting
Few people know that I was once a copywriter for a small advertising agency. Yes, that’s one of my first jobs, fresh out of college. I studied Advertising then and my young and naive mind could think of nothing better than to work in an ad agency. I later had the pleasure of working with & getting to know many talented people from renowned agencies like Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, Foote, Cone & Belding, BBDO WorldWide and Grey Worldwide to name a few.
It was an interesting time but the agency life I soon realized, is not for me. That’s when I jumped over to marketing and sat on the client side. Today, I still use what I’ve learned 😉 but must say direct response kicks my butt and continue to struggle over headlines. My relationship with copywriting is truly a love hate one. When the copy does good it’s time for love but the thought of sitting down to write … oh! I’d rather be sent to the lion’s den.
That’s kinda how I felt when Alice Seba shared her optin page templates with me. I figured I needed prompting on each and every step. So I asked her if I could make a software, based on her templates, mostly for myself, to help keep me focused on each point as I come to it instead of worrying about how I’m going to end it when I haven’t even written the intro yet.
That little venture has turned into something with a life of it’s own. Alice will be launching Copywriting Sweetie tomorrow and it comes with 4 software products I built (all neatly packed under one interface) to create optin pages, sales pages, survey pages and even thank you pages. I use these little babies myself every time and now I find there’s more love than hate. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of that 😉 but Alice’s instructions and the software helps soothe the burn.
