Quick Screencasting Tips
Are you creating screencasts? Here are a few quick tips you might want to keep in mind.
Always rememeber, quality and file size is relative to each other. Better quality = bigger files = more difficult for some people to view due to download time.
- Produce in FLV format. Explanation –> http://richmediainfoproduct.com/convert-file-to-flv.html
- If your video is very long, consider breaking it up into smaller chunks.
- Use minimal fancy stuff e.g. all those click sounds, and clicking animations will increase the video size.
- Audio wise, depending on what format you output, there should be options to save the audio at a different rate. The higher the rate, the better quality but also larger in size.
- Less moving about the screen reduces file sizes too.
- Make sure you have lots of bandwidth for streaming. If you need a cheap host with considerable bandwidth to host your videos, here are some suggestions. Dreamhost, HostGator, MomWebs.
- Don’t forget to post to YouTube, Google (although they are now the same company I don’t know if they will merge the site soon) and other video sites to gain a little bit of exposure.
