Software As Marketing Tool

If you’re subscribed to my ecourse list, you heard this from me before. Using simple software as a promotional tool. This tactic is not new, in fact it’s almost as old as computers itself. Today we call a bunch of these Adware but I honestly do not like that term – it tends to conjure negative images for people.

There is a difference between Adware and Spyware though, Adware is when the software is supported by ads. It shouldn’t contain any bad stuff that messes up people’s computers or spy on people. This is the type of software I’m talking about here.

As I told my newsletter readers, software can be a very effective promotional tool. Every time that person uses your software, they’ll see your company name and your message. Software also has a higher perceived value. I’ve created a few myself and given them away as freebies either in place or or together with an info download. And almost always, the list where software is offered grows quicker than the rest. My friend Alice and I are also working on a software (hint, hint).

You don’t have to be a programmer to create a software. You just need a vision of what you want done, put it down and start posting it on those freelance places. Someone can make it for you and as long as you aren’t setting out to build a hugely complex software like Microsoft Word for example, the cost can be quite affordable.

Meanwhile, Frank, if you’re reading this, I didn’t get your email in the question you submitted. But if you can contact me through the help desk about what you’d like to see in my Podcast Generator Software, that’ll be great.
