Feedburner recently launched a new feature to it’s popular service – FeedFlare. So… What is it? The simple way to put it – its a footer that goes under each feed item you have.
Why would you want to use it? Great question and this is something I always ask myself when it comes to FeedBurner’s features because I feel some features are great for a blogger, they aren’t necessarily great for business. But anyway… I think this has some value for business bloggers. But before we go there let me explain FeedFlare a little further.
Although it inserts a footer to your RSS feeds, you can’t put anything you want there. No, it’s not free text. You have a choice of 7 things you can put there.
- Email to friend link
- Most popular tag for this item
- Tag this item in del.icio.us
- Email author of this item
- Creative commons license for this item
- Number of comments for this item (WordPress blogs only)
- Technorati cosmos (number of links to this post)
If my theory on Social Bookmarking is true, I think the most beneficial of all would be the ‘Tag this item in del.icio.us’. If you haven’t read my theory, here it is again. As the blog develops and grows then I’d probably add number of comments because one of the things about blogs – they are like forums. People like to judge the quality of a blog by the responses it gets — although that is not an accurate measure but hey that’s social proof for ya 😉
How do you enable FeedFlare? Just log into FeedBurner, go to the Optimize tab, select FeedFlare check the options you want and activate.
