iTunes Video And The Marketer

Scenario – You’re anxiously waiting to watch the next episode of (insert your favorite TV show here) but you have company or the kids start to fuss or something else happens you have to miss part or all of the show. What do you do?

a. Rats – just your luck you just have to catch the next episodes and hope for reruns
b. Wait till the season ends and then some to get the DVD or video pack
c. Get it from iTunes a few days later for $1.99

Don’t know about you but option c was exactly what we did and boy we’re in love with this concept. Thanks to John Reese, my husband and I are totally hooked on ABC’s Lost now. We purchased the first season DVD but because my husband works nights it’s hard for him to watch it and our local reception sucks. Since iTunes launched video on iTunes we happily caught up with the missed issues. But there is one drawback – TV shows are limited right now on iTunes – but expect this will only be a temporary thing.

So what does all this have to do with small business marketing? Well… not so much about getting your videos on iTunes although you can create videos in .MOV format, make it a video cast and submit it to iTunes but I think the big picture is more interesting here. You’ve heard it before TV and the Internet is merging and I’ve also mentioned this in one form or another in previous entries about video . Here’s what you can use video for right now:

1. Video Cast – Create helpful videos and promote affiliate products
2. Paid downloadable video content – many are already doing this
3. Live video class access
4. Pay per view videos – can be an infoproduct turned video or a video interview

I’m sure you have more ideas – share them with me.
