Create A Better PDF eBook

The last two days, I’ve been reading a few ebooks. If you’ve been following this blog and my newsletters you’d know which 😉 anyway… the story is this. So many marketers give out free PDF ebooks as a viral tool. It’s a great strategy but pleeease make them printer and reader friendly! Whether you’re a big hot shot where everyone is just beating down your door to get the book or not, try not to piss them off reading your book. When people download your book it indicates (in most cases) a highly motivated individual interested in what you’re trying to say.

Two small tiny things that help your readers

  1. Create numbered pages – many people print out their ebooks, know that it is often difficult to read online and when people are online they get distracted with the big flashing lights on the Internet. When someone prints your book you’ve got a captive audience. Help them get there. Unfortunately, printers can sometimes mess up. Ever come back to your printer where half the pages are on the floor? Without numbered pages how are they supposed to assemble the book?
  2. Create printer friendly pages – try not to use landscape format. It’s a book. Make it look and fee like a book. Not only that, some people use print utilities to help them print booklets or multiple pages into one sheet of paper. Landscape pages are very difficult to make booklets from. Landscape books waste paper (usually). So many marketers get stuck with their book being so many pages long. I bet people would prefer 10 pages of direct to the point hard core useable information than 20 pages of info + filler + white space

Technology is wonderful especially PDF’s – everyone can make one but know how to use them effectively.
