How To Downgrade WordPress Role Upon Suscription Expiry

When Nicole Dean launched IncomeCPR, she had some super ideas in store for her members. One of which is allowing members to submit their content to an exclusive site where affiliates can grab free articles from. She promotes this site and hence recruits affiliates for you.

The rules are simple. If you’re a member, you get to submit. If you’re not, you don’t get to submit.

So… how do you set this up, and preferably have it run automatically?

Nicole uses a Member and when she reached out to me, I said, the easiest way is to use the a Member plugin that connects WordPress to a Member. The plugin allows you to give members a default role if they do not have any active subscription.

There are a few things you should know about this plugin. There are actually two a Member plugins to connect WordPress to a Member.

The first one is no longer available for purchase or download on their site. However if you are a customer they just might let you have it upon request do check with them. This is a much simpler plugin and not as feature rich. It will do the role downgrade and create user accounts inside WordPress just fine. However it does not protect the content at all. Although there are ways you can do that with just a little bit of PHP code snippet.

The second one is available free from a Member. It is a much better plugin feature wise. At the time of writing this is still in beta and is not recommended for your money sites. This can also upgrade/downgrade user roles based on subscription and it can also protect content.

For this purpose, either one will work really because the idea is not to protect content, only to change user roles.

Other ways to achieve something like this would be to use Wishlist Member. Or using Delavo with DelMem plugin.

By the way, IncomeCPR is a wonderful resource for info product sellers. You should check it out.
