Recording Skype, Windows XP Not Required
Received an email from the creators of Total Recorder the other day, they fixed the Skype issue and now you can record Skpe calls with it. I have yet to install it, will keep you posted should there be difficulties but anyhow this is great news for those of us who don’t operate on Windows XP I’m perfectly happy with my reliable Windows 2000 thank you.
It’s also super affordable considering Total Recorder basic is only $11.95. Their support has been a tad slow but the software as far as I’ve had it is solid, easy and works well for the last 6 months I’ve had it. The only issue it had was my fault. No need to tinker with it, just install, fire it up before the application you want to record from and hit record.
Anyway, if you’re a podcaster who wants to record calls without paying long distance, Total Recorder is my recommendation. Total Recorder also works great on my web conference room which can be used for recording calls with unlimited number of people.

Hi there,
I have just tried to record a Skype conversation using TR (with the settings mentionned in the help: How to record internet telephony) but without any success…
Have you tried on your side?
Cheers,
Frederic

Hi Frederic, no, I upgraded my system and am still struggling to put everything back together. My regular Skype partner is also incommunicado so I have no conversations to record at the moment 🙂
Hi Guy, thanks for your input. I tried Audacity but maybe my settings are not correct. However from what I understand (again I’m not very good at audio stuff) is you need ‘virtual cables’ because the normal sound cards can only handle one output and one input so… my audacity has only always produced one sided recordings. Otherwise, Audacity rocks.
