Tutorial: Creating QR Codes To Build Your List
Have you seen those square barcodes in magazines, business cards, online or in town? Some of them even look like Aztec designs. These are called QR codes – I’m sure each one of those codes of their own name but for general knowledge, QR codes suffice 🙂
These codes can be used for marketing purposes – you just need a little bit of creativity. Here are some examples:
- Use it to add contact information and put it on your business card
- Create a code with a calendar event – think meetup, webinar or conference
- Create a code with an email address
- Use it to give out telephone numbers and much, much, more.

I was also looking in to QR codes for my clients. They are also creating QR codes incorporated into their logos.
What I’m worried about is people creating QR codes that point to inappropriate links to websites or maybe even a virus. Do you think there is a way to know this before scanning the QR codes?

Hi Mimi, Like everything else, I am sure someone will ruin the
experience and generate codes to sites that aren’t on the up and up.
Given the current technology, it kinda depends on your scanner. I have
two scanners on my phone. One actually gives me the URL before making
me decide what to do – cancel or go ahead to launch the site.
Granted, it doesn’t give me much more. I think if it gets to a point
rogue codes are a problem then the technology (or developers) will
naturally work to keep up and add new features to create a better
experience for the user.
However, as someone who creates codes for legit use – we can’t worry
about that aspect too much. These are things beyond our control so why
sweat it. If the technology is useful to your audience, I’d try them
out soonest while the going is still good. Waiting longer just means
it is going to get tougher – like in the case of emails.
