Nice Time Saving WordPress Photo Plugin
Once in a while, along comes a really cool plugin that I find myself getting hooked on. One of the most recent ones is Grab & Save. It’s so simple it’s brilliant (by the way, have you noticed how brilliant stuff are usually simple? But that’s for another post). Using Grab & Save, instead of downloading an image to your computer, edit it and then upload it to WordPress, you simply tell it where the URL of the photo is. It will grab a copy of that image, save it to your own web server and you can manipulate, edit and add it to your post in the usual way.
Now, remember we said simple? I’ve been doing that download/edit/upload song and dance for so long I didn’t think it was that bad. But after trying out Grab & Save, I would be rather insane to do that again. Not only does it make things easy but oh my does it cut down the steps and saves so many minutes/seconds in between and you know I love automation.
By using this plugin, you:
- No longer have to download an image to your computer (saving some bandwidth for those of us who have ISPs who limit our usage)
- No longer have to launch that image editor to crop an image
- No longer have to re-upload that image to your site (again saving you some bandwidth and not to mention time spent hunting for the photo)
- No longer have to delete that image from your computer (more time saving – keeps you clutter free too)
Yes it does look like you won’t help much but I challenge you to give it a go. Finally, I’d like to thank Michel Fortin for making me aware of the plugin.
If you’d like to see the plugin in action, here’s a video.

This is fantastic Lynette, thank you! I’ve never liked how other plugins like photodropper handled images but this one doesn’t try to do anything fancy. Simple, just like you said.
Glad you like it too Cindy. Photodropper! Yes that’s the one I used
for a while and didn’t like too much because some photos were removed
from flickr also, offsite photos didn’t work with some excerpt plugins
I was using before.

Very neat Lynette. Nice to see what to do when a photo needs attribution – I’m never sure.
🙂
Hey Alex! Been a while since I ‘bumped’ into you online. Have to admit
sometimes the CC licenses confuse the hell out of me. My
interpretation of attribution is quite straight forward, the author
wants to be recognized so I always use words like Photo by… or Photo
courtesy of… and give them a link. The terms of use for Flickr
images is you have to link back anyway.
But some other CC license variations I am totally not sure of like the
ones that say no commercial use. Well, from my understanding,
commercial use means different things to different people. Some feel
commercial use is you can’t use it on a site that makes money (that’s
us). Some say that is OK but commercial use means you can’t sell or
resell it. Since I’m never sure and don’t always have time to ask I’ll
stay away from those images.
Lynette, thanks for the info about this pluggin. I also have been using Photo dropper, and this looks great. I going to try it out right now. Merry Christmas.
Hey Grace, Merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks for another great share Lynette! Merry Christmas!
Hey Stephanie, and a Merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks Lynette! I’ve just installed and used the plugin. It works great.
Well, you found it yourself! I just replied to you on MM LOL but hope
you enjoy it.
