It may sound weird to you, but I absolutely love collecting landing pages. These include pages you get directed to after subscribing to a list, after buying something, after you create an account on a site, after upgrading your software… just about any page you ‘land’ on upon a successful action or transaction. For me, landing pages tell me a lot like:

• How well the merchant has thought through the entire sales process
• Whether the seller is interested in the customer’s experience or just something they slap together in a minute
• Whether the company is automating every little part they can
• Whether a business is cross-promoting other products of theirs and more
• What to avoid when setting up my own pages and what to emulate

In the past, you really couldn’t effectively save some of these pages because they are not permanent. Depending on the system used, some pages are automatically generated and expire after a while (like download after sale pages) and sometimes people change the URLs so you can’t always rely on bookmarks. I also used to take screen shots but that ended up in a mess of image files I had a tough time sorting and organizing, let alone find the information when I needed it.

Thankfully Evernote saved that for me! When the design is important to me, I would use the screen shot feature to save an image of the landing page to Evernote. If the design is blah but the copy is excellent, sometimes I’d just use Evernote’s clip feature to save the copy only.

By carefully tagging and putting them in the right notebooks I’ve managed to build a nice swipe file of landing pages. I absolutely love this when I get stuck on what to say when creating a new landing page or how to structure things so it is as clear as possible for the customer or subscriber.
