Web Host’s Domain Shut Down From Email Issues

An email came in recently from our hosting guys. They have been doing a big re-branding, re-launch exercise lately. They were also very generous with the tools that they offer their customers and affiliates to help promote the new sites. One of the tools provided is an autoresponder. Unfortunately, somebody decided to abuse this privilege and take advantage of their generosity. Basically, they uploaded several million email addresses into their service. Once mailing began, it crippled the server and what is even worse, their domain registrar suspended the domain.

While I’m reading this, I am thinking to myself how thankful I am to not have to worry about email. If an experienced web host with all the resources at hand can run into issues and they do – many just don’t tell you. How well do you expect to handle it?

I’ve said this many times here on the blog/site and in emails. It is really not worth it to host your mailing list yourself. Even if you use a plugin for your WordPress site to manage newsletters – it’s the same thing. The emails are all generated from your site. Too many things can go wrong. $20 a month to begin for someone else to handle the email is really not that much. I use Aweber. I’ve also listed other options in the 180 Free Tools You Can Use To Build Your Business report.

I’m not saying all this to get you to buy from my affiliate link or to scare you into action. Just a friendly reminder and if it sounds like a scare tactic, that’s because it is a very real issue and very scary. At least for me it is. Been down that road once – not going there again.
