The Low Down About Outsourcing

You’ve heard them talk about outsourcing. It is easy! Delegate the stuff you don’t like to do. You can easily hire capable people. And you’re crazy not to do it already.

As one who has (need) a lot of help, I can’t disagree that the best way to free up my time is to have someone else do the work for me. But, you should also realize that outsourcing your work comes with a set of its own challenges. From being a worker, you are now the manager. Managers need to cultivate different skills. Like the ability to pass on knowledge.

The cold truth most don’t tell you up front is, training people is time consuming and it can be hard because training and teaching may not come naturally to all of us. Particularly when your knowledge of the material isn’t extensive either.

You cannot expect to pull just anyone off the streets, tell them to watch a quick this-is-how-I-do-it video, pat them on the back and say, “Now go do it”. Alright, I’ll be fair and say for some work, you can. For work that require more specialized skills and focus like… setting up a membership site for instance. It is just not that easy. Producing the training material, checklists or systems, answering questions and helping them through problems after the fact can practically be a full time job.

So what does that leave you? Outsourcing is supposed to free up your time. Instead, you find yourself spending more and more time training someone. Worse, you sometimes find yourself fervently crossing your fingers this new hire won’t leave the moment they learn enough to strike it out on their own. A lot of frustration. That’s what it leaves you.

There is a saving grace and it comes in the form of trainers. Take a look at most mid to large organizations. Their managers don’t train the staff. If the staff needs to learn a new skill or update their current ones, they send them to the trainer. And so should you.

I’ve been producing technical training material for years and continue to do so via TechBasedTraining because I enjoy it and totally believe in the concept of life long learning. Today, I am so proud to release yet another training course, the Rapid Wishlist Membership Site Development. We walk your team member through setting up the most common membership models online using the Wishlist plugin. We even do part of the work for them. Instead of spending time reading the manual and still having to string together the pieces after, they can jump straight into the building process while we hold their hand. Good for you and less frustrating for your team.

What if you are a VA yourself? Then you absolutely want to check out this course so you can start offering a new service to your clients almost immediately. You can learn more about Rapid Wishlist Membership Site Development at TechBasedTraining. While you are there, do look over the other training courses you or your team member may need.
