How To Delete 14000 Emails Under A Minute

And, keep the emails you wanted untouched.

Over the weekend, my husband messed up the upgrade of a forum he owned. Basically, the database wasn’t connecting properly. The forum is set to send out email notifications to the admin (me) whenever someone visits the site and this happens. The end result, I found my inbox flooded with 14000 email notifications. Yes, this is site with a lot of traffic.

Thankfully I use GoogleApps so this became a non-issue. There are actually two ways you can do it.

Method one – search and delete

The messages sent in this case has a very specific subject. Using that, search for the subject. Once you get the results, click Select: All. You will notice a message that says something like this.

Yay! Click that link. Then go ahead and click the Delete button. All gone!

Method two – use filters

This method is somewhat longer and does the same thing, but it could come in handy in special situations. You create a filter and in enter the title you want to match or from email address or name. Click next step. You will be asked what you want to do with the emails that match the filter. Select Delete it and then Also apply filter to XXX conversations below.

Click Create Filter. You’re done. Make sure you delete the filter after if you don’t intend to use the filter anymore.
