Have you ever clicked on links that take you straight to Twitter and (if you’re logged in) include a suggested message in the “What are you doing?” box like this one below.

Wanna know how to create links like that? It’s really super easy. Copy the code below and replace ‘put your message here’ with your own text. Just remember, to keep it all within 140 characters including URLs. This is a fab way to encourage your affiliates to tweet about your products and news. Also, if you publish a newsletter, put it in there as well to get people to tweet about what they are reading/learning in your emails.

what if you want to include a # tag like, ?
Can it be done in plain html?
Ginger T May 27, 2009
try again; like ‘ y o u r m e s s a g e h e r e # t w i t t e r ‘
Lynette May 28, 2009
Hi Ginger, I’m pretty sure you can. The hash shouldn’t be a problem as long as the message is in quotes.

It doesn’t seem to work. Try putting # twitter (w/o the space) in your code to see what I mean. It takes you to @ twitter’s home page.
Here’s a sample of the code i’m using:
http://bit.ly/test #test” rel=”nofollow”>
As you can see it’s in quote marks but takes you to @test’s home page.
It seems that it ignores anything before a hash tag and goes to the home page of the word after the hash tag??

oops code got snipped again. Should read:

Do’h, can’t get it to show my code.
Just put #twitter between here and ” in your code to see what I mean.
Lynette May 29, 2009
Hey Ginger, sorry about that. I wasn’t at my computer to check before. I see what you mean and I’m not sure at this point if that’s something that can be fixed. It seems like Twitter filters it. The way around that may be to go through the API which is kinda beyond the original scope of this post. Involves a little more tech work.

Found it!
You have to use the html code for the hash symbol which is %23 (percentsymbol_numbertwo_numberthree – without the underscores if it doesn’t show)

Thanks so much for updating us Ginger. I have been away from my office for the last two weeks without my normal charts and this was kinda bugging me
