The version I use is running on my WinXP machine. Also linux versions are available, so maybe some webhosts run it on server side.

Google analytics is nice but sometimes a pain to setup the filters etc.
Tools provided by your webhost often give way to vulnerabilities (log spamming, revealing confidential data) when not secured in a proper way.
I download my logfiles and process them on my own workstation (using a quite old program (analog)).
Results can be interpreted and compared over long periods as I didn&#039;t change the analysis software.
