Could well be.
The version I use is running on my WinXP machine. Also linux versions are available, so maybe some webhosts run it on server side.
check out analog.cx – not updated for a few years, but the software is still ok.

@Tom: Hey there. Yes, that’s why I don’t always rely on one but more like a combination of all. By the way the Analog you mention is that the Analog that many web hosts have or another Analog?

Never rely on 3rd party stats.
Google analytics is nice but sometimes a pain to setup the filters etc.
Tools provided by your webhost often give way to vulnerabilities (log spamming, revealing confidential data) when not secured in a proper way.
I download my logfiles and process them on my own workstation (using a quite old program (analog)).
Results can be interpreted and compared over long periods as I didn’t change the analysis software.
Google Analytics is only used to check if the site is live when I am travelling.
