Though our official WordPress tutorial product was released in 2004, fact is, I’ve been teaching, guiding and coaching on it for longer than that.  For the longest time – Oh… I’ll admit it, until this very morning – it has been a personal mission of mine to make sure everybody who came into our training program would come out being savvy about WordPress and any other system we teach. Yet, year after year, it never fails. Some students just don’t get it and time after time, I beat myself up over it. Enough to put myself in a minor depression. What’s wrong with my teaching? What’s wrong with our material? How can I make this better? It is a good idea to periodically review those questions. Today however, I realized something else. Some people just aren’t wired to understand whatever it is you teach. It’s not your fault and it certainly isn’t the student’s fault. I like to think it’s because that isn’t the student’s real strength to begin with, or, it’s just not the right time. Think about your own school days. Weren’t there subjects you just weren’t good at? Physics – that was my folly. Then, there were

WordFlood Article Software Review

Monday, December 6th, 2010
WordFlood

For many marketers, the thought of using software to re-write content is blasphemous and some get truly upset with anyone using an article software. I used to be on the edge of that camp. I’m saying on the edge because if there’s one thing I believe. That is sometimes, when we pre-judge the results, you could be missing out on huge things. When WordFlood was recommended to me, I was naturally skeptical and you should have a dose of skepticism. You see, I’ve tried an article software in the past and frankly it sucked. If you’ve followed me in those days you may have heard me say things like, “you can’t automate article writing“. I still believe that, but WordFlood has helped me see things in the right perspective. What made me adjust my thinking on this article software? It’s simple. WordFlood is not a content spinner or article re-writer. It may be marketed or categorized as one but in my eyes it’s not because it is not automated. It relies on user input. Here’s how it works. You load an article into the software. WordFlood will then analyze the content and provide alternatives for highlighted words. You can see

USPS Helps You Recycle

Monday, June 1st, 2009
Recycle

Did you know that you can pick up free pre-paid envelopes to send your empty ink cartridges, cell phones, PDA’s, digital cameras and other small equipment at your local post office? Yup. USPS has been working with companies like Dell, HP, Sprint and Sylvannia so soon you can recycle those CFC bulbs too. Check at your post office. From my understanding this is currently at select post offices only.

ioSafe Solo

When there’s a flood or a fire, chances are good you’d lose your computer and the most precious thing in it – your hard drive with all your work. That is one reason why I’m a big proponent of a dual backup plan one on-site, like your external hard drives of DVD’s and another off-site like Mozy which means your data is actually backed up to a place that is outside of your office/home-office. That way if anything happens to your home or office you can always retrieve the set from Mozy. I have a network attached drive to store all my backups but am always concious of the fact that backup is only good if my computer crashed. If a disaster strikes, I’ll lose the computer and the backups too. Even though I do have Mozy and have a way out, I like the thought of making the backups a little more disaster proof. Which was why ioSafe Solo caught my attention. It claims to be water and fire proof and comes with a $1000 Data Recovery service plan. When there’s a fire, it closes the vent to (even without power) to seal in the internal circuitry to protect

Laser Printers Make More $ense

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
toner.jpg

Several years ago, I decided I had enough of ink jets. We owned several models up until then and even tried those with individual color tanks thinking it might save us money. What a waste of time and good money. Since I had the pleasure of working at Canon office automation once, I was well trained how a laser printer works and also how easy on the wallet it can be. But a basic black and white laser printer costs many times a color laser jet printer. Can we wean ourselves off the color printing aspect? It was a biggie. In the end we decided that for business use, most of our printouts don’t need color. And so we took the plunge. The investment itself cost less than anticipated because we looked out for a deal. It came with a starter toner cartridge that was supposed to yield only 2000 prints but we got a lot more out of that. When it was time to purchase our very first replacement cartridge that kinda hurt a little considering toner cartridges go for $70+ and up. But that too turned out to be a bargain because my cartridges last me about 11

Money Talks

Over the last few years, podcasting has been growing by leaps and bounds. With more people joining the podcasting ranks, the number of pod hosting sites and software programs have grown as well. Recently I was asked if I knew of a podcast host which would allow shows to be pre-recorded or made onsite but scheduled for a later air time. I do know of one that would probably fit the bill and that one is TalkShoe. TalkShoe has a variety of options available to meet the needs of podcasters. The free recording, storage, and bandwidth options are especially appealing. TalkShoe allows you to host live episodes and record as you go. You may also choose to record and schedule shows for a later time. Do you have a show you’d like to upload? That is an available option too. When it comes to listeners and participants, there are some great options. For instance, an episode can be open to the public or you can mark it for private use only. This might be useful to you if you want to invite or allow only specific people. Depending on your recording and access choices, listeners may be able to call

So Much Going On Today

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

First up. You know that I’m releasing Blog Energizer today. It’s going up at 1PM Eastern time. By the way, if you haven’t already, you can still download the fabulous blog topic ideabooks we pushed out over the last 2 weeks. Crazy downloads, 4000 combined and the feedback has been fantastic. Next, did you know Jimmy D Brown is also putting out private label rights to some of his own reports and e-books today? Hmmm must be something good going on today. I like Jimmy’s stuff and his pricing is always reasonable. Check it out for yourself.

Whipping Up Special Reports The Easy Way

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Photo credit: Ole Jørgen Bratland& Gisele Jaquenod I love giving out special reports. They help establish your expertise and more importantly bring free traffic that is not dependent upon search engines. In fact, they can help reach audiences I don’t normally get to reach. For example, I’ve had reports that others have asked if they can be given away on their blogs, web sites or membership sites. What’s more, because reports are more or less evergreen, they will continue to send me traffic for years to come. Pretty sweet. Trouble is, I don’t necessarily like writing them. When you’re not exactly ‘born to write’ writing reports that are 2000 words or so can be like pulling teeth. You’d rather be doing anything but that. Why can’t reports magically write themselves? The good news, there is a way they can be magically written every month. Sort of. With private label special reports. Yup. They do those at Special Reports Club. It is only $1 for the first month. Too hard to pass up. Think of it as $1 of perpetual advertising.

Our office recently was in much need of a large storage drive to relief the burgeoning drives on our small server. The requirements, it has to be network capable and should be about 1TB large. Not wanting to wait, we settled on a Western Digital MyBook that was in stock at a local store. It’s been about a month now. The verdict, it works, but could use with some improvement. The drive works. It was super easy to set up. But the problem began when the drive would sometimes out of the blue register offline when it wasn’t. The drive came with a limited version of MioNet which was very easy to use. With it, you can share specific folders and files with people outside your local network. So for example, if you were traveling our outside of the office you could put the work files into a folder, share it with yourself by sending out an invite to your own email. You click on this link they give you to view/get the files in this shared folder. I would have preferred not using MioNet to access the drive which you can but needs some configuration. I didn’t like that
