Missing WordPress Post Screen Features? Here’s Where They May Be Hiding.

For whatever strange reason, sometimes when you are writing or editing your WordPress post or pages, you might find certain options missing.

This could be anything from the Categories options

Tags Options

and even some plugin options that all should be there.

Single-Post-Ad-metabox

It’s frustrating. Especially the built in ones you know have got to be there right? This very problem drove me up the wall once and I spent countless hours trying to fix and once I found the solution I kinda felt silly.

Turns out the screen options for that metabox (that’s the WordPress term for these boxes of options) were turn off. So if you find something missing in your post editing screen, check your screen options first.

It is located on the top right corner of every screen in WordPress.

    Hi Lynette,
I upgraded to WP 3.6 and am having a problem with just one blog. The problem appears whenever I hit the ‘save draft’ or ‘publish’ button. My screen goes totally blank and I have to hit refresh, then my back button, followed by deleting my cache. It’s strange that it is only happening on this one particular blog since I have the same theme and plugins on another blog that works fine. I tried doing an internet search for a solution, but could not find anything. Do you have any ideas. Thanks.

@Coleta sorry you’re experiencing all these problems. Yours is one of those problems that are really tough to troubleshoot until one can see it themselves and it could be any number of things. Usually I’d try to first disable all the plugins to see if that affects the site. I know you said you have the same plugins on another site but unless one site is an exact clone of another down to the content and customizations, they are still different. If no plugins are activated and the problem persists, then I’d try keeping plugins off and switching to the default theme.
Warning! Changing the theme would mean you will have to replace the widgets to where they belong when switching back.

LChandler Thanks Lynette, I’ll try that.
