Past Advice Came Back To Bite Me

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

“Mommy, do you want to eat candy corn?” “Sure!” I answered, looking at her dirty little face who’s been outside playing for the last hour or so. She made a gesture to throw a small piece of candy corn to me. Unsure of what was in her hand – this 3 year old has an imagination. I scrambled to look for whatever she threw my way. It was (thankfully) nothing but imaginary candy corn. *Phew!* It was President’s Day yesterday. One of those holidays where some people would be working but government offices would be closed. Including the stock exchange. So I figured, why not do the same for myself and spend some time with my little ones? For way too long I’ve been working 7 day weeks, 12 hour days (if not longer). On weekdays, the minute the kids get off the school bus is supposed to signal the end of my work day, but I’ve failed time and again. Weekends – try as I will – have become half work days. Some weekends I do OK. Other weekends I struggle and fight a losing battle with myself. Sunday was one of those days. Vowing not to turn on

Useful Links of Week 7

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I often come across some awesome websites but don’t have enough time to do an in depth review of them all. Usually, they get bookmarked into Del.icio.us which is OK and I refer to it often. But some of them are worth highlighting. So this is the first in this series. This week, my friends over at MomsMorningShow.com were chatting about blogs, making money and blogging in general. One of the things mentioned was using more images in your blog posts. This is a method that’s highly recommended by many as successful blogger. But the question is always, where do I find images we can use – legally and fairly? SXC.hu is my personal favorite. I’ve been using them for over a year and they seem to get better and better. Used to be there were only photos but I see more illustrations now which is fantastic! Open Clip Art Library I stumbled upon this site while checking out some Creative Commons links from Wikipedia. What I like about it is the fact it’s clipart. Sure there are times for photos but sometimes you really want some polished and cool looking cliparts. The only gripe is, the sites seem hard to navigate. I can’t easily see a

If You’ve Been Trying To Reach Me

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Guess What? My web hosting account (not this one) was mis-configured for some weird reason. I got bumped into a really tiny plan which was not enough to hold all the files I had in the account. Subsequently, showing the account was “out of space”. This resulted in emails for the last 2 days not being delivered. So here I am going through 2 days worth of emails from our help desk assistant – she forwards me stuff if she’s unsure how to handle them. This is one time I am awfully thankful to have a help desk and a real person manning it. At least emails weren’t being ignored or something. But if you did send in a ticket and CJ has not come back with an answer – it is my fault! Terribly sorry about that. I’m positive CJ will send responses out as she gets answers from me today.

My Google Docs – What Happened?

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

I rely on Google Docs for a lot of things. Sharing documents with my partners, with my writers and assistants. More importantly, I use it to log timesheets for my clients and share it with them so they can always log in to get the live numbers every day. Imagine my surprise to see this today. I almost thought someone hijacked my GoogleDocs!   I did calm down after realizing it’s a Valentines Day skin and thought that’s FUN! I wonder if they only do it for women because I’m not so sure a man would like to see all that pink all day. What do you guys say?

My Private Life As An Internet Entrepreneur

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Last week, I was tagged by Alice Seba who in turn was tagged by Dr. Mani to complete a Meme. I have to answer 5 questions about myself as an online business owner so here goes. 1. How long have you been blogging? Oh golly do I dare admit the days I tried to blog with Microsoft Frontpage? Eeek! I know, I know how the hell do you blog using Frontpage. The answer, you can’t but I sure did try. See how lucky you folks are now with super easy blog systems? That should give you an indication of how long I’ve been blogging. But in case you have to have an accurate answer – since 1999… wow… that date sure looks different when you write it out. It’ll almost be 10 years soon. Now that just makes me feel ancient. 2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors? I’m not sure I’m ready to admit what got me started. Let’s just say it had nothing with making money online nor business. Mentors? Huh? This was pre-Blogger. Blogging mentors were about as easy to find as a Martian in my back yard. But overall, I

Twitter Add-On For Firefox Not Required

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

For a few weeks now, I’ve been keeping up with my fellow home business pals and motivating each other with Twitter. Problem with Twitter, if you want to keep up with what everyone else is doing, you need to keep that page open and refresh it periodically. That’s such a pain. So, we were ecstatic when we found Twitbin. It is a nifty Firefox Add-on that loads in your sidebar. You login through it, post your tweets and it’ll fetch new tweets from your friends automatically too. All was good in TweetLand until today when Twitbin quit working. Won’t let you log in period. I am having Twitter withdrawals and judging by the tweets so are my peeps. I needed to find a backup solution. So I got to thinking, why not load Twitter directly in Firefox sidebar? Here’s how. Go to the mobile version of Twitter http://m.twitter.com Bookmark it. I put it in my Bookmark Toolbar Folder so I can quickly find and click on it without searching through bookmarks. Tip, a quick and easy way to do this,  just drag and drop the tab into one of your toolbars. Now, right click on the bookmark you just made, click Properties Check the box that says “Load

Time For Some Blog Action

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Question. What if every blogger posted about the same topic on the very same day? What kind of buzz would that generate? Would it be big enough to capture some serious attention? That’s what the folks at Blog Action Day asked and they decided to do it. October 15th is Blog Action Day where bloggers are encouraged to blog about the environment. I just signed this blog up. Don’t know yet what I’m going to be blogging about but have a rough idea. October 15 is a little over a month away but I hope you’ll make it a point to drop by that day as I’ll share some super thoughts about the environment, your business and of course tech. Of course, you can also join this ‘revolution’. Just click the banner to register your blog and spread the word. Technorati Tags: environment, meme, blog action day
