Help DeskQ: Why would I use Copernic Destop search over NS Windows Desktop Search. -  Don Ashlock

A: Hi Don, great question. I think desktop search tools are one of those software that greatly depends on your work habits and needs. I have not used Windows Desktop Search and after checking it out, not sure if I will begin to as I don’t see it being that big an improvement over the built in search which is very basic to begin with.

My reason for using Copernic was because Copernic could search my emails. Unlike many people, I don’t use Outlook. This was a big challenge for me because most desktop search tools including Windows – I’m sure, support Outlook but not Thunderbird in their search.

Email search for me is of utmost importance because I archive my emails for about 5 years. As you can imagine, that’s a lot of correspondence to look through. And thus, Copernic won me over.

  • Hey Jack, I've tried Google Desktop but something about it just didn't quite grow on me.
  • Hi Lynette - Good point on being able to search emails - I archive mine back for quite a ways as well.

What do you think / know about Google Desktop Search?
    Jack
