Some of you noticed that the blog has started using Disqus to manage our comments a few months ago and have written to ask why. Good question!
There is no one particular reason. I did it more to test things out and installed it on several blogs. Some blogs, it went through without any problem, but this one for reasons not made known to me the import didn’t go through in the beginning and I had to get support to work on it. They were reasonably speedy on the case so that was good.
Once imported, comments would appear both on Disqus and also saved in WordPress database. That way, if you ever turn it off, you won’t lose your comments. The comments area now loads a Disqus page in a frame.
What I like about Disqus as a blog manager.
So far all seems good. I have noticed some quirks here and there. Once the comment came in really late but it showed up inside the WP database and this week, I noticed one comment not on Disqus at all yet is in my WP database too. Maybe it was triggered by their upgrades a few days ago. Not sure. 99% of the time the comments come through without a hitch.

I think DISQUS is a great comment plug-in because your comments can be shared on Twitter & Facebook and other comments as well as DISQUS to manage our comments…

Totally agree. The social network integration is nice.

Disqus is a great commenting plug-in and I think Disqus is going to be the next best thing in commenting. It's great at stopping spam!…Disqus is Rockssss

Hey James,
I agree with the spam. That's all lumped into that one reason – just
got tired of hacking things together, so many plugins just to manage
comments. On the other hand, you do lose out on the marketing
functions like thanking people who comment – always got a nice
response from that. Or giving people the option to subscribe to a
newsletter.

Disqus allows threaded conversations that are easy to follow and join.Disqus is prevent spammers.
Lynette Chandler March 12, 2010
Hey Rebecca,
Thanks for your input. If you are using WordPress you already have
threaded comments. Not entirely sure on the spam though, I've received
some via Disqus but I just haven't as many that part is true. Do you
find you are getting more comments though?
I was recently surprised by someone saying they won't comment on a
site with Disqus (or Intense Debate) installed because they feel it is
one more thingamajig to keep up with and that's just a
misunderstanding of course but I still… I haven't noticed a
significant difference. But people do seem a little less chatty now.

One good feature of Disqus is that it is “SEO friendly,” meaning that bloggers don’t lose any of the Google juice they might otherwise have gotten.

Disqus work great with Facebook Love it. Disqus is much nicer and I can see all the comments I make in one place..
Veda Alexandra March 18, 2010
Disqus now brings us the ability to comment using your Twitter account. You don’t have to give up your actual Twitter credentials since Disqus takes advantage of Twitter’s support

Disqus is a great tool, I have it on many of my blogs already. It will only get better in the next few years..Disqus is a popular commenting platform…

Wow, Sir, it's a good move. DISQUS is a good tool. I really hope that you have a great time with it.
Bonnie Morgan March 26, 2010
I am new to Disqus but i really like it. It is much better commenting than anything i have seen on wordpress or digg.
Lynette Chandler March 27, 2010
Hi Bonnie, it's interesting you say that. At first I was a little
skeptical about that because that's part of the selling points Disqus
made that it will help get more comments. After having it on several
blogs now I'm not entirely sure that is true – at least for my sites.
Since different sites experience different things. I've not seen any
difference. Glad it is for you though

I couldn't have found a better plugin for my Joomla blog. Its perfect, I was trying all sort of things then finally I found this.
I really like using this, as you said social network, commenting using twitter, yahoo or other accounts makes it easier to handle for the commenter.

With Disqus, you lose control over your comments. You've effectively given all your comments over to Disqus and have no way of getting them back should you decide to terminate Disqus. Your blog will be commentless.
Lynette Chandler May 19, 2010
Not sure what you are using, but if you are using WordPress, that's
not true. The comments still get captured in the database and I see it
there.
