The Best Reputation Defender Is…

April 10th, 2007

To think carefully what you say. Er… in this case what you type. A few months ago, I wrote about the service, Reputation Defender. There was a very good discussion after that about their terms of service and the service in general.

Guess what? I stumbled upon a blogger who received a removal request from Reputation Defender on behalf of one of their customers. In the end it lead me to conclude a few things.

  • Many bloggers or forum owners will just refuse your request.
  • What seemed like a good idea isn’t because the letter sent on your behalf which in reality is a form letter, is too impersonal. A form letter doesn’t exactly make me feel empathic
  • Think before posting :D and save a whole bunch of heart ache and money! This is even more important for business owners since our company reputation is on the line too.

That’s a good point. Something that’s always on the back on my mind as I reply to a post in a forum is “this will be on available on the net forever, am I sure this is what I want to say.” It’s a pain in the butt to have the nagging there, but it’s not something you can afford to live without if you care at all about your reputation.

Hey Justin, glad to see you here. It’s good that you do think about it. Most forums do allow you to edit your own post but most blogs don’t allow you to edit your comments :(
