Blog Brainstorming: Local Real Estate

April 3rd, 2008

Back to our regular Mailbag Thursday. Here’s the question of the week.

I want to set up my first Real Estate Blog, My Company has a web site: But I want to focus on my Residential Christian clients, and local residential clients.

I think a blog, keeping them informed would be helpful, and I would also like to communicate on the condition of the market, as well as use it as a christian vendor exchange. Am I trying to do to much with this. God Bless & Thanks for your help. Bob Weaver

Help DeskA: Hi Bob!

I like that idea, especially the local flavor. Love the part about sharing information about market conditions. This is one of the hot topics these days. Actually, it’s a good topic whether times are good or bad. And, some markets do OK while others don’t, therefore, the local angle is great.

The only part I’d be cautious about is the vendor exchange. This

Before You Post

March 7th, 2008

before-you-postI am not in the habit of sticking stuff to the sides of my screen. But there are some things I feel is important enough they should be clearly viewable.

Before I send any blog post to publish, I usually ask myself a few questions. So, I made this Before You Post card to stick on my monitor. That way, I’ll remember to ask them on every single post. Even this one ;).

The questions are designed to make sure I don’t blog about something I’ll regret later and also to maximize every post I publish. Not every one of the suggestions work on every single post, but it forces me to ask it so I don’t miss out on any opportunity.

Oh and by the way, you still have time to register for IMBloggingBootcamp where you’ll find personal and private help to get the most of your blog.

Make Your Site Mobile Friendly

March 5th, 2008

tbm_palm_screenshot3Continuing yesterday’s post, today I’ll share a few things I’ve learned, how to make your site (or blog) display well on tiny screens. There are so many different mobile browsers. If you think designing for computer screens is difficult, mobile browsers are even more challenging. I don’t profess to
be a pro at this. So, if there’s anything inaccurate here, please do point it out and share your expertise.

For blogs:

If you’re using WordPress… I hope you are, then this is super easy. Simply install the WordPress Mobile plugin. This plugin displays a mobile version of your blog/site and also allows you to blog through your mobile browser.

The Good: I found the ability to blog from my Palm TX very convenient. I also liked the clean simple lines of the mobile display. It is quite customizable using CSS but didn’t spend very much time on it.

The Bad: In order to publish via the browser, you enter your blog
