Open Source Software - Filezilla FTP

October 11th, 2005

Continuing with the open source software series, this week the highlight is Filezilla. I’ve been using this open source ftp program on and off in the past. The reason it was on and off was back then I felt it was too slow. Due to a problem with my existing FTP program I was left without one a month ago and I didn’t want any of the so called free FTP programs because I hate splash or nag screens. Somehow when it’s on an FTP program which is a utility, they get on your nerves. Many commercial companies giving away their software usually don’t support it either. So when you have a problem, you’re out of luck. Finally, some of the free ones aren’t really free at all if you know what I mean.

So… I downloaded the newest version of Filezilla and find the speed is no longer a problem now. In addition to Filezilla, I’m also using FireFTP. This works only on Firefox. It’s great for quick uploads and works beautifully. I love how I don’t have to fire up a new program since FireFox runs almost full time on my PC.
