Some of us don’t set up blogs very often and when we do we realize we miss a few things. Even if you do set up blogs everyday you may have a nagging feeling you’ve missed something.
I call checklists my 2nd brain (ok, maybe 3rd or 4th) because my motto is, Stop hogging those RAMs in the brain for information you don’t need to store. Put it in a checklist and let it remind you. A clear mind thinks faster – just like our computers
Here’s a comprehensive blog setup checklist I created by request from Patrysha. Thanks Patrysha!
If you like mind maps, this blog setup map is for you. If you’re more of the linear text person, download the blog setup checklist PDF.
By request, here is the PDF of the map. The other one is a textual outline.

These are awesome! Thanks.
I took a peek at them and saw there are no security or back up plug ins in your recommended or essential plug ins. Are these types of plug-ins not necessary? Are they just hogging space and giving me an illusion of safety?

Hi Patrysha,
Typically, I prefer to use other methods for backup and site scanning.
Reason being, many of the plugins only scan/backup only the wordpress
folders. That could mean, if you uploaded a folder outside of WP – or
create pages outside of WP, these don't get backed up or scanned. It
all depends how things are set up. Most sites that have been built
before going WP usually has some residual like that. My backup methods
are universal and works for both WP sites and non WP sites so I'm not
using multiple backups methods.
Also, while there are some great security scanning plugins, I
personally find they tend to bring up a lot of false positives. If you
know how to read them then it you'll know what to ignore but many
don't and sometimes causes unnecessary panic.
Like I said, just preference. I can certainly add those to the list.

Is there an easy way to print out the mind map?
Lynette Chandler February 25, 2010
Good question. Not from the flash viewer but I updated the post above with a link to a PDF of the mind map. You may need to zoom to see the finer details. Hope that works out.
